When considering a career in EU affairs, think of the following areas

  • Law firms and consultancies specialised in EU affairs, competition law, regulatory affairs
  • Consumer affairs, environmental lobbies, health policy advocacies and others

Trade associations, Industry representations, NGOs

  • Trade associations of car manufacturers, sugar producers, chemical companies
  • Representatives of pharmaceutical industries, construction companies and others
  • Human rights advocacies, animal protection activists, religious groups

Diplomatic bodies, Governments

  • Permanent Representations of EU and 3rd countries in Brussels, Assistant to EP Members

How to apply

  • Determine your own profile: what is your real motivation?
  • Which EU policies, areas, issues are you most interested in? Know your priorities!
  • What is your qualification? Diploma, language skills, "soft" skills? Which job would suit it best?
  • How much do you want to earn at least? Is a traineeship position good for you? Or a senior executive post?
  • Keep an eye on vacancies: only apply for those that suit the above criteria!
  • Make sure you do research on the company you apply for: don't just send out unsolicited e-mails!
  • The most important in your cover letter is to be relevant: how can you contribute to the employer's success?
  • Find out the best way to present your CV, background, job history, language knowledged and others
